Tricel Novo Wastewater Treatment Plant
Why is my Tricel Novo beeping?
When properly installed, operated and maintained, your Tricel Novo is designed to provide many years of reliable service. Your system is fitted with an alarm to alert you if an issue occurs.
The alarm can sound for three main reasons. Listen to the speed of the beeping to help identify the cause and find out what to do next.
You can mute the buzzer while the issue is being resolved. Once the problem has been fixed, the alarm will reset automatically and the mute switch should be turned off.
All electrical work must be carried out by a certified electrician.
1. Slow beep: Annual maintenance required
0.25Hz Beeping*** (0.25 Beep over 1 sec) with 0.25Hz Light
2. Fast beep: Pump issue
3Hz Beeping*** (3 Beeps over 1 sec) with 3Hz Light
This requires urgent attention.
The alarm may indicate that the pump is not operating correctly. If the issue is not addressed, it could lead to a high water level and potential flooding.
3. Medium/fast beep: Air blower issue
1Hz Beeping*** (1 Beeps over 1 sec) with 1Hz Light
This also requires attention.
The alarm may indicate an issue with the air supply to the treatment plant. The bacteria responsible for treating the wastewater need sufficient oxygen to function effectively. Without enough air, the treatment process can be affected and the plant may not treat wastewater correctly.
Still unsure what's causing the alarm?

Is there a bad smell coming from your Tricel Novo?
Before taking any corrective action, always positively identify the real source of the odour.
Check if the smell is coming from another outside source such as a storm drain. All Tricel Novos vent gases back through soil pipe and out roof vents. Improperly installed roof vents can cause odour problems. Traps in drains prevent any odours from entering the home. To function, they must contain water and be sealed correctly.
Unpleasant odours can have several causes. First, identify where the smell is strongest to help determine the likely source and what to check.
This may be caused by incorrectly connected pipework, missing or incorrectly fitted air vents, damaged or blocked pipes, or issues with drain traps.
What to check:
- Check that traps/U-bends are correctly fitted and joints are sealed.
- Ensure the wastewater pipework is correctly vented. Vents should typically extend above the eaves of the roof.
- Check the pipework for damage, blockages, incorrect installation or sagging.
An unpleasant smell around the tank may be caused by blocked pipework, an issue with the pump where fitted, or disruption to the bacteria responsible for the treatment process.
What to check:
- Check the liquid level in the tank.
- Check that pipes entering and leaving the tank are not blocked and are correctly fitted.
- If your system has a pump, check that it is working correctly.
- If the problem persists for 48 hours or more, the manual advises removing the liquid and replacing it with clean water.

A lack of air delivery can also contribute to odour problems.
What to check:
Check that the air blower is functioning properly. If you suspect a blower problem, it is important to have the issue investigated, as the air supply is part of the treatment process.

Still can’t find where the smell is coming from?
The manual notes that smoke bombs or smoke pellets, available from plumbers’ merchants, can be used to help trace the source of an odour.
